Sunday School for Adults

A variety of Sunday school classes are offered to help adults at every age and stage of life to grow in their faith. The main focus is always studying God's Word and applying it to our lives. This takes place in a smaller group setting than the worship service.

WEPC is richly blessed with many gifted teachers of the Word. Take advantage of their willingness to serve and to help our church family grow in faith by attending one of our adult Sunday School classes, from 10:00-10:45 each Sunday. Take your coffee with you!

Sunday School, starting January 8, 10:00-10:45

  • ETHICS, Ellen Rowland, room 304
Includes videos from "Doing the Right Thing; Making Moral Choices in a World Full of Options" (from Charles Colson Ministries), then discussion led by various WEPC members from various occupations about moral collapse, ethical vs. unethical behavior.
  • REVELATION, Gus Sideris, room 302
In order to unveil the mystery surrounding this apocalyptic work, this class will meld the historicist and idealist points of view. The teacher sees this book as describing the long chain of events from Patmos to the end of history, as well as the ultimate victory of good over evil.
  • THAT THE WORLD MAY KNOW, Lane Anderson, room 301
Continuing from the fall quarter, this class explores the historic, cultural, religious, and geographical context of Jesus' life and teaching. Video and discussion.

Sunday School, starting January 15 (5 weeks)

  • PAUL'S PRISON EPISTLES, John Teevan, room 305
This class will consider each of the letters (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon) in its context and compare the purpose of the letters rather than a verse-by-verse study of the 4 books. 5 weeks.

Sunday School, starting February 19 (8 weeks)

  • EFFECTIVE KINGDOM PRAYER, Bruce Shown, Pat Sittler, Joe Bryan, Bambi Wilson, room 303
This class starts with a short lesson about 1-2 effective prayer principles, then prayer for our church, our missionaries and ministries, and the worldwide church.

There is never a need to pre-register. Just drop in anytime, any class. You are always welcome! John Teevan's class will be recorded and available on CD (contact the office at 267-7044 for a copy) or listen to it on the website, www.warsawpresby.org.

Sunday School for Children

Children of all ages, from 6 months old through 6th grade, attend small-group classes to learn the Bible, the nature and character of God, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our main goal is to help bring children into a personal relationship with God through Jesus, and then to help them mature into His disciples.

Your child's Sunday School class is his or her "small group." They meet in the same room each week, with the same teacher, and have the same format. We aim for quiet consistency in teaching the Bible.

We are thrilled that so many of our teachers stay on our teaching staff for years! All but one of them have taught for a minimum of 4 years—the longest amount of time is 13 years. They stay because they have been called to teach by God, and they are committed to using their gift of teaching to build up boys and girls in their faith. Please pray faithfully for your child's teacher throughout the school year.

If you want to see what your child is learning this year, check out his or her class in the enclosed "Discipleship from Birth Through High School" brochure for WEPC's class standards. And don't forget, you are always welcome to visit your child's classroom at any time!

WEPC Children's Ministries encrouages kids in thrie walk with Christ and chellanges them to make a difference in the world.Children's Ministries

In all our various ministries for kids, our main goal is to create an atmosphere that encourages kids in their walk with Christ and challenges them to make a difference in the world. We want to help them recognize and celebrate what God is doing in their lives and to learn to love Him with their whole heart.

Each of the kids' ministries has a specific role and complements the others. Even though the ministries look different and emphasize a different part of the big picture, they all serve a common purpose of encouraging kids in their faith walk.

Presby Kids' Choir

In the fall, we offer a variety of worship skills such as singing, drama, handbells, boomwhackers, etc. The kids learn how to use and develop those skills as an act of worship, and prepare for hands-on ministry as they perform in the adult worship service periodically.

We offer an age-appropriate program in the spring, where the children learn and present a fun and relevant musical that is geared toward sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with our friends, neighbors, and church family.

Presby Kids' Choir meets from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights, September through April. If you are interested in being a part of Presby Kids' Choir contact the church office at (574) 267-7044, or email Angie Leopold, Presby Kids' Choir Director.

Fun Start

Each evening we EAT stuff (dinner), MAKE stuff (crafts), DO stuff (games, activities, hunts), and LEARN stuff (about God and Jesus). Modern media, such as popular children's books or videos, are used as a starting point for learning about God and His truth. Special theme nights, like Movie & PJ Night, Balloon Mania, Carnival, Wacky Winter, Build Fun City, Wild Wheels, and Leaping Lizards Party. Family Nights include Fall Family Party, Family Christmas Party, Family Valentine Party, and Family Finale. We want children to not be able to wait to get to Fun Start, and not want to leave when it's over!

His Majesty's Puppets

The puppet ministry was started in 1970 by Rev. Pete Eckert and his assistant Dave Barnett. Over the years the puppets have been directed by various individuals, some who are still members of the congregation. Presently they are directed by Rhonda Buswell (over 20 years with the ministry) and Bonnie Hughes (6 years). Jerry Hughes builds props, sets up the stages, and drives the bus.

They have traveled to various states and Canada to present God's Word using this unique tool. In the last five years they have traveled to various locations in Indiana and Ohio to present programs. The programs are presented to various churches, community organizations, conferences, assisted living, and nursing homes.

Each year members of the team go to puppet ministry workshops. They have been to Chicago, Indianapolis, Louisville, St. Mary's, Ohio, and Allegan, Michigan in the past five years.

The fourth Sunday of each month from Sept. until May they present skits and songs for Celebash. Songs and short skits have been presented for two Wild Game Dinners. Usually the team presents a Christmas program and a Mother's Day program as the two biggest faith based musicals each year for the church. This year they will present a program for the Harvest Dinner and a Christmas program for the Special Needs Christmas party. The puppeteers have also presented programs for WEPC's VBS and presented a short on August 8, 2010. July 19, 2010, team members gave a presentation for PAC. His Majesty's Puppets average 15 programs a year for this church and various other places.

About four years ago the congregation was offered the opportunity to "adopt" puppets. Several members of the congregation adopted puppets in honor or memory of others. Some just adopted and named puppets as their contribution to this ministry that has the ability to reach people from two to one hundred and two with the message of Christ's salvation. There are still puppets that are available for adoption. Each adoptee is presented with a certificate and have their picture taken with that puppet.

Four years ago I became very excited when I discovered God's Rods at a ministry conference. God's Rods is the use of dowel rods and creative movement to choreograph songs. (It was created by Jeff Smith.) I brought this idea back to Anne Bailey and she liked the idea so a new dimension was added to the team. God's Rods has been very well received at WEPC. We now add this onto some of our puppet presentations and sometimes it stands alone. Examples are last year's Easter and Christmas programs.

The first practice session will be August 31st at 6 p.m. in the puppet room—where all our practices are held. We welcome anyone in or above the fifth grade to join us and no previous puppetry experience is necessary, as we do teach puppetry skills.

Youth Ministries

The youth ministries at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church (WEPC) exist to come alongside students in their daily walk with Jesus. The leadership staff is here to assist students at developing their competencies in the following areas:

  1. Evangelism - it is the goal of our staff to teach and enable each student to accurately articulate the Gospel of Jesus Christ and understand the reason for the hope they have in Him.
  2. Prayer - it is the goal of our staff to encourage and provide time for each student to develop and maintain an active prayer life and open communication with God.
  3. Discipleship - it is the goal of our staff to teach and enable each student to grow spiritually in their walk with Jesus and continually develop a greater understanding of who He is.  It is our hope that each student will grow into a mature believer in Jesus Christ who will be able to disciple others as God brings them into his or her life.
  4. Worship - it is the goal of our staff to teach and communicate true authentic worship through praise and song as well as through our students' daily lifestyle choices.
  5. Fellowship - our staff will provide time for and encourage fellowship and "hanging out" time among believers within our group for the purpose of growth in relationship and encouragement to one another as they live out their faith in Jesus Christ.

WOW (Winning Over Widowhood)

WOW is a ministry to the widows of our community, normally meeting the first Saturday morning of each month from 9:00-11:00 in the Fellowship Hall. The morning agenda includes brunch, a presentation, and small-group sharing. The mornings are inspiring and informational, as well as fun.

The purpose of the group is to partner with other widows to achieve a "new normalcy" in living by helping widows deal with the loss of a husband, helping to develop relationships with other widows, and directing their focus from their loss toward Jesus Christ. The group exists to help new widows through the grieving process to the point of embracing life with hope, promise, and vitality.
